The Cornelius Cardew Concerts Trust, in partnership with the Music Department of Morley College, is for the fourth year in succession hosting a concert at the College. This concert celebrates first and foremost the path that the renowned composer and musician Cornelius Cardew was instrumental in opening up in the world of music, by encouraging new music to be written that consciously participates in advancing along this path. Composers in writing to this year's theme have taken further inspiration from two specially written poems by noted poet Carol Rumens on the theme of "One World": The Hazel Nut (Posing the Problem) Circling the Square (Posing the Solution)
New works by Michael Chant, Rob Cooper, Carlo Francesco Defranceschi, Alison Doubleday, Seah Cheng Tat, Jane Serter and Hugh Shrapnel
Performed by Luis Parés and the Quartet De Madrugada

"Impossible Riddles Quintet is dedicated to the Cornelius Cardew Concerts Trust (CCCT), seventh annual concert in memory of James Allen. The piece depicts a series of rapidly changing scenarios. Each scenario tells a different intriguing story whichembeds its own harmonic question apparently equivocal and at the same time of difficult formal solution. The piece proposes in oxymoron different visions of the same organic world, but itembedsamicro dimension which is an intrinsic element of our world" A.C.
